OK, well I applied and was admitted to the three schools to which I considered applying ED, and while I'm very confident wherever I end up will be tons of fun (most likely Vandy at this point), I'm trying to get a feel for how the transfer application process works as opposed to the freshman process. From the limited knowledge I have, the majority of transfer applications are sent in the fall or spring of the sophomore year to result in entrance in the fall of the junior year. Please correct me if I'm mistaken!

But more importantly, can someone give me the general timetable and/or procedures (test scores sent again? high school gpa a factor? et cetera...) or point me in the right direction to find this information? I appreciate it!

I'm currently trying to transfer as freshman (going on sophomore). The process is remarkably (almost exactly) similar, except push everything back 2-3 months. Usually if you sent them your SAT scores as a freshman applicant, you don't have to send them again. HS GPA is important for freshman, not so much for sophomores. Colleges tend to be more lenient about letters of recommendation (i.e. optional), but not always. Good luck.

Most transfer deadlines are sometime in March, but there is a range. It is quite common to apply as a freshman for sophomore year; as well as to apply as a sophomore for freshman year.

If you were accepted to the three schools which you were considering ED, I assume that means these are the schools you really felt (at least back in November) were the best for you. SO... you should really be assuming that you will thrive at the one you choose and you should not be second-guessing yourself and thinking about transferring.

Fair enough to ask how it works and what the timing is. Now you know. Forget about it.

Bloom where you are planted.

Next year in February, if you find your school does not meet your needs, you can think about transferring. Not before.

Should have noted: I'm considering transferring essentially for the diploma alone. I'll probably end up at Vanderbilt and will no doubt flourish and enjoy four years, but in the end, a diploma on my wall from HYP or even Duke MIGHT (stressing this) do a little bit more for me than a Vandy diploma. I might not even take up an offer of admission as a transfer, but these are the types of schools to which I'll apply and I'll take it from there!

In the end, grad school matters most to me. I plan to work my ass off in college for this.

jmmom, I like to know every possible scenario well in advance of it manifesting itself. Not sure where you get the idea that a commanding attitude will do anything, but I appreciate your help nontheless! As of now, I'm trying to establish a loose understanding of the process. In a year or so, if I decide I'm interested in that route, the process will be expediated. :o
