@desertbeachkid Thanks for the input. I know my chances are slim, but there’s no harm in doing my best!
@riley2 Ah, thank you for the encouragement. I appreciate it a lot <3
@thehawkarisen Don’t let naysayers stop you from applying to Stanford. I think you have a chance. But make sure you apply to some good safeties. The only thing you can do at this point is write great honest essays that show your character and personality and what you have to offer to the campus life, and try to get interesting recommendations from people who will talk about you as a person rather than just an A+ student genius. You should know what your strengths are at this point, so focus on that. With 33 ACT score and 3.9 UW, my kid didn’t think he would get in Stanford REA but he did. And to boot, his Stanford adcom told us he believes our kid’s application was strong enough for other top schools also but Stanford was the only reach school, and other 4 schools were all matches and safeties. I got into Cornell with 3.0 GPA in high school but with 99.9% SAT score, so never say never.
If you don’t get in, move on with your life; it’s no big deal to not get into Stanford. You have a spunk, kid, which is better than any high test score in my book. I applied to Harvard with 3.0 GPA in high school; didn’t get in but I got into Cornell so it’s not bad to reach for the star because you will end up at a very good college. But again, apply to several matches and good safeties.
I’d recommend that you give up the idea of a dream school and work to create a solid college list that includes reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (find out your parents’ budget and run the net price calculator for each school) and that you would be happy to attend. The people I see who get hurt by the college admission process are the ones who focus on one or two hyper-competitive schools and then don’t get in. Cast a wide net and recognize that (assuming no major hook) Stanford, with under a 5% acceptance rate, is a huge reach for pretty much everyone.
@websensation Thanks for the advice/encouragement!
@happy1 Of course I have a LOT of schools that I intend to apply to (around 8 or so)! I know Stanford is a massive reach, but I’m doing the best I can and regardless of whether it works out or not, I’ll make sure to have plenty of backups and other options. Thank you for the tips!
They do take 5% of the applicants, its not like your trying to win the powerball lottery. :-S
@CU123 Yeah, that’s definitely true haha
