Trying to Transfer Major and School at Same Time

I am currently a freshman at Purdue in engineering. I feel like I have made the wrong decision in choosing engineering as my major and am hoping to switch to nursing for fall 2018. However, my GPA is extremely low maybe around a 3.0 and almost none of my credits are compatible for transfer. This means I will have to spend 5 years towards my degree. I am fine with spending 5 years in college but I can’t imagine spending them at my current university. Since I have been here, my depression has come back. I feel so trapped and I can’t bring myself to do anything anymore. I am trying to transfer to another university but my GPA isn’t to any of their standards but I was a successful student in high school (4.0 weighted GPA, 30 ACT). Is there anyway to get out of my situation?

If you apply for transfer now, your HS records will be extremely important because you haven’t been in college for very long.

Are you certain about dropping the engineering major. Then taking a leave at the end of this semester to concentrate on your transfer applications could make good sense.
