** Tufts Class Of 2012 RD Decisions **

General Comments: Sorta surprised about this decision as well as others on this board. I may be bitter but I fully believe in Tufts Syndrome. Anyway, I would never attend a school that's not a CC Top University.

Being a white male with a mediocre 2200 SAT score and unimpressive ECs you "fully believe in the Tufts Syndrome"? :o

I thought that term was used to describe schools who don't take qualified applicants because they seem disinterested. Personally, I think I fit the bill. And Ilike how you call my EC's unimpressive just because I didn't list every volunteering activity I've done since being a fetus. I posted on this to try to help juniors looking at Tufts get a perspective, not to brag. Maybe my EC's are unimpressive to you, but Northwestern begs to differ.

tufts is a great school, northwestern is a great school, yale is a great school, kenyon is a great school.......whatever fits YOU is a great school. many, not all, cc'ers are far to concerned with numbers and rankings....so tufts didn't make the list, so what, for me and countless other people it is a perfect fit and the place we will excel at and that's all that matters so please stop judging your achievements and the "greatness' of a college by numbers...you are missing the whole point

You do realize CC Top Universities are just the non-Ivies from the USNWR top 27 from 2007? And while rankings should mean as little as possible when choosing a school, do you also realize that Tufts was in tie with UNC-Chapel Hill and USC at that magical 27 position in 2007, and USNWR chose to place them one entire spot lower (28) this year, which makes it still tied with UNC-CH. Good luck at NU, it's a different type of place than Tufts, and hopefully you'll fit in there better.

To get back on topic, I already wrote an anecdote of this afternoon here, but to cut it short:

Accepted at College of Engineering

[ul]
Subjective
[] Essays: Liked them well enough, didn't love them though
[] Teacher Recs: They've said they were good AFAIK
[] Counselor Rec: see above
[] Optional essay Yes/No: Yes, gorillas vs. guerrillas. I really loved this essay, it wasn't difficult to write and was my favorite college specific essay.
[] Important ECs: Baseball (non recruited but JV and Varsity captain), summer volunteering/living away from home, water cooling computers
[] Hook (if any): Being myself, trying to give the idea that I have a different mindset than most in that I love backpacking and fishing as much as tinkering with computer hardware.
[/ul]

[ul]
Other Factors:Thought my interview went over pretty well.
Will attend Yes/No: Haven't visited yet, but yes if I had to choose today
General Comments: My last decision to come in, and I ended up 5/9 (2/4 CommonApp). My only reach acceptance, and only East Coast acceptance, but not for sure picking Tufts yet. Best of luck to everyone else!

Wow volunteering... must take an amazing, exceptional person to do that!!!

Oh and I love how you're talking sooo much trash after getting into NORTHWESTERN. Have you looked at the statistics for enrolled students and acceptance percent? The SAT average is higher by 10 points per section and the acceptance rate is a whole 1 percent lower!!

If Tufts is a 2nd tier school, then so is Northwestern.

BTW, do you have any excuses for your rejections at UPenn and Rice?

Now, now, play nice. Ignore the sore losers and the unappreciative winners. Fanning the flames does not accomplish anything, letting the comment sink deep into the thread is much more productive.

GG over and out!

^^^^^ Right on, GG.

^^^ what does waitlisted mean? Do we get a package just in case a place becomes available?

DD applied to 8 school, got 6 "yes", one "no" and Tufts puts her on WL.

I don't know- anyone that calls a 2200 SAT score mediocre...well...what can one say to that?

Northwestern is in a completely different league than Tufts is.

If you want to use numbers, fine; let's. Maybe you can explain why only 24% of people who get into Tufts go. Personally, that speaks for itself academically and socially.

The point of this stupid fight is probably over the "CC top university" comment. I was being facetious, as noted by the smiley face, sort of mocking how CC does single out those based on stupid rankings.

I got waitlisted at Rice. If youre going to be a weird stalker and look at my other posts, please read them correctly. And I don't think there's anything wrong with not getting into those schools which are way better than tufts. If i didn't get into tufts, I would probably kill myself though.

You obviously have a problem with me, and its probably because you didn't get into other schools except tufts and are trying to drum it up as being an amazing school. I think it is too but you really don't have to dig up statistics.

Sigh. Being rejected, even from a school you don't want to go to just plain hurts. And it's happening to so many kids this year that it has far exceeded fair. An article in the NY Times talks about how Harvard had 3300 valedictorians apply this year. That's far more than they could possibly accept. The number of kids with perfect SATs was enormous as well.
I'm sorry that there are people who didn't get into their choice schools, but it really is true that there are amazing schools everywhere, and amazing opportunities as well. Reaming each other out will only make everyone feel worse-- both reamer and reamee.
People who got in should recognize where the anger and frustration is coming from and just back off. Ending the conversation will help others move on.

Tufts is awsome, and I am applying for transfer next year. My junior and senior years really sucked, my dad had a heart attack the night before I took the SATs and my mom has been battling with a severe blood disorder. So im going to take the time to show Tufts, that I wasn't slacking off, as much as I was just a bit distracted. Tufts is my dream school, and it really hurt to get rejected. But people that make it sound like a bad school, especially people who did get accepted, are quite unecessary. If you got into Northwester, than props man. But please, leave the hate behind.

PS: You all seem like great people, it is completely understandable that the college admissions process brings out the worst in us. It's such a stressful time. :)

Now: back to the subject of my tranfer. Should I take the Spanish SAT to show tufts my passion for a global education? I am really good at spanish. What are you opinions?

Any tips that might help me nail a tranfer admission next year?

Over and out.
lol ok let's use numbers...

The acceptance rate for some of the truly elite schools: Harvard 9% Yale 10% Dartmouth 15% MIT 12% UPenn 14%(lol rejected here right?)

The acceptance rate for Northwestern is 27% and for Tufts is 28%

The matriculation rate for the some of the elite schools: Harvard 80% Yale 62% Princeton 66%. I don't want to list every school, but every other Ivy league college and top engineering school has rate of AT LEAST 55%.

The matriculation rate for Northwestern is 38% and for Tufts is 27% based on last year's numbers. This discrepancy is largely due to the fact that many applicants to elite New England colleges use Tufts as a back-up school because of location and academics.

So it looks like we're in the same league buddy. If you really wanted to separate such small differences into separate leagues, then Northwestern will probably be a 8th tier school while Tufts being a 9th. Grats on your 8th tier school? Sorry you couldn't get into the top 7. :(

Yea I'm a weird stalker for clicking "find more posts by zlyons889" and skimming through the first page... But you were waitlisted and you didn't get into Tufts.. so please kill yourself :)

Actually I'm not trying to defend Tufts at all. When have I every said anything about how great Tufts is? I'm simply mocking the fact that as a very AVERAGE applicant to Tufts, you cry "Tufts Syndrome" after they deny you admissions. Notice how your SAT score and GPA doesn't even hit the 75% mark for enrolled students?

Oh and FYI, I got into Dartmouth and Cornell, but chose Tufts for financial and location/social reasons. Dartmouth>Northwestern.. right? right? :)

Do well in college. There's no reason to take more SATs or any other high school tests.

Sip615: the reason i loved tufts so much was because they seem to really care about the individual (you can see that by their essay choices!!!) and not just numbers like a lot of other schools. if tufts is truly your dream school then all you have to do is work hard your first year and then write them a letter, a genuine letter, about why you love the school, what you can bring to the school and how much you think you can suceed there. Tufts will listen :)

GOOD LUCK

ps....let us please end this battle....we keep saying it and i keep seeing this useless banter up here anyways.....

[li] General Comments: Surprised I got in, because my senior year classes were less-than-impressive to say the least and I was very conscious of the fat C+ waving from my junior year transcript in AP Chem. Compared to the people who posted above, my SAT scores also seem to be below par. I also didn't do an interview...even though I tried to get one.[/li][/ul]
