It feels like many same people applied to the same colleges. So those who got accepted at competitive school were also accepted at all other schools. At the end they will have to choose one place to go and colleges will start pulling out of waitlist otherwise some of them will end up with only a few admitted freshmen LOL
Rejected from Tufts. nationally recognized for music and intlly recognized for film lol. def bc of demonstrated interest tbh.
True. That’s a certainty. But we’ve decided to move on. Everybody on this board who has been punched in the gut this week should try to do the same. With college 25 years in the rearview mirror, I can say you all have such an amazing four years ahead of you no matter where you wind up. I’m incredibly jealous.
So order that sweatshirt, put that sticker on your car window and get after it. Fall in love with a subject you never knew anything about. Go to plays, concerts and speakers. Join greek life if that’s your thing. Get involved with research and philanthropy. Play an IM sport. Allow your convictions to be challenged. Go to office hours. Have a snowball fight and drink some cheap beer. You can do all of these things wherever you go.
DS is suburban MA and was ED2 deferred and then rejected but waitlisted at Amherst College. His two HS friends (1 public school, 1 private) are accepted at UVA and likely at Columbia but both were also rejected from Tufts; not even on waitlist, lol.
Thank you so much! Very uplifting! And again there is always a chance for grad school and hopefully it will be better in 4 years.
DS rejected. She is bummed as this comes on the heels of waitlist at Johns Hopkins and BU. Admitted with scholarship at NEU so at least she has one option from the Boston hotbed.

Tufts definitely really takes into account demonstrated interest which makes it difficult for anyone to take “safety” route with it.
indeed. i’m really grateful that mich gave me a chance :).
Son was rejected but he’s not upset about it at all. He liked Tufts when we toured but he understands the odds when vying for a spot against such qualified candidates. He’s focusing on the solid selection of schools that he has gotten into and moving on. He will very likely end up at another NESCAC.

Do you mind sharing where else he applied? And what state you are from? So glad he has other solid options- he looks like he is a strong applicant so I hope that would be the case!
Just found out that someone I know who got into Duke, Rice, and JHU-- and is being considered for a full ride at Duke-- got rejected here last night. Wild year for Tufts! Lol
does tufts really consider itself an ivy this year? tufts syndrome was the first term i learn about tufts to begin with… i really have no attachment to tufts but what a way to conclude college application process. waitlist and rej by all but safeties. lmao
Son accepted. ~3.95 UW GPA, no test scores (thought that would be his downfall, as he had 7 test dates cancelled), ECs include Eagle Scout and SPL of troop, 200+ hours of community service, varsity athlete, student gov, founded Club, etc. Also accepted to Emory, NEU, BU and a few safeties. WL Michigan. Rejected all UCs he applied to. No hooks.
So true!
Congrats to your son! We are in Cali too and expected trouble with the Ucs as some of our friends and family had. Strangely we are having the opposite experience and S is having trouble with private schools. Rejected by Tufts 33 ACT (very lucky to get but almost no time to prep), 4.5/3.9, 400+ hours of service, sports, rigor, APs, etc. it feels really unpredictable this year at this level and we didn’t demonstrate enough Interest at Tufts since he applied broadly due to Covid. Anyway, Tufts is unique as a private really strong Stem school option we don’t have out here in the West at that selectivity level. Happy for your S.
