I am a bit stuck on which college to apply for ED with. For Tufts I’d probably do Econ. For NYU Stern the Business core.
NYU Stern is harder to get in with 8%, but I’m in their average range with a 1480 (790 math). I’m in Tufts Average range as well
My weighted GPA is 3.9 though. I have had solid Bs with Math HL… perhaps one of these universities will look down upon that more?
I have pretty good ECs so I’ve got the holistic appeal. Starting my country’s first robotics team which I ran like a business in a sense, being part of this selective international academy of scientists and doing research projects which did involve economic plans, interning at a Blockchain company and getting insider knowledge on the Crypto industry.
If I’m stuck between these two colleges, which one should I apply for? My goal is to have the best chance of getting in. I know ED is not about ‘getting in’, but these two colleges are hard to choose between and I need a nudge.
However, if you want to sway me away from one school because there’s some characteristic differences please do let me know… also maybe you may feel NYU stern looks at different things than Tufts
I would start off with… What do you want to study? It is important to understand that economics and and undergraduate b-school are very different paths.
Economics is a liberal arts course of study and gets very theoretical at the upper levels. In contrast if you go to an undergraduate business school you will take a business core with introductory classes in subjects such as accounting, finance, IT, marketing etc. and then you will major in one of those disciplines.
I’m not saying that one path is better than the other, but they are different. I would take the time to look at the coursework (can be found online) for both a undergraduate b-school and an economics major and see what is preferable to you.
My second question is why ED at all? IMO ED should only be used if the following two conditions are met:
The school is an applicant’s absolute top choice AND
The school appears affordable (run net price calculator) and the family has no need desire/need to compare financial offers between different colleges.
I don’t think you have an absolute top choice so I’m not sure why you feel the need to apply ED. Maybe look at some rolling/EA schools and keep your options open for now.
