Tufts Med School -- early assurance program requirement -- must have no grade below a B?

I have all A’s, but ONE non-A grade: I got a C in calc 1. I took calc to merely challenge myself and open up doors. It was not a major or pre-med req. But, according to the Tufts website, EA applicants must have no grades below a B.

Do you think there is ANY chance they might still consider me?
I’m an EMT, involved in clubs, and a Native American.

Unfortunately not, the committee is very strict with the grade policy. I had several friends apply last year for Early Assurance with a Bs in one of their prerequisites and they were immediately rejected. Also in order to qualify for early assurance, one must have at least B+s and not Bs in the perquisites, Im sorry for being the bearer of bad news.

To be eligible to apply, you just need a 3.5. All it says is that competitive applicants will have those grades. I won’t sugar coat it: a C in a low level math class will certainly raise questions about your academic ability. But it doesn’t exclude you from applying altogether, so you should still apply. There’s nothing you can do about it now (DO NOT to try to explain it in your personal statement), move on, and hope for the best. When I applied, I thought my grades were weak (though I didn’t have a C), but I was accepted. If you have any other questions about the Early Assurance Program, or my experience, feel free to PM me.

FYI calc 1 is definitely a premed requirement and will be counted in your science GPA. Having a C in calc 1 doesn’t look great. But who knows what EA ADCOMS look for. Maybe you have an interesting story. So you should try and see what happens. It’s good prep for when you apply for med schools. My son applied few years back with almost perfect grades and didn’t get in. But he did get accepted when he applied regular admission after junior year. So don’t worry too much about it. All is not lost if you don’t make it. Good luck.
