I know that Tufts is pretty big on drama/visual arts/theater but what about music? I'm going into the College of Arts and Sciences and I want to join the Symphony Orchestra, take private lessons, etc. for fun. How is the music department there?

The Granoff Music Center is (imo) one of the most well decorated buildings on campus, the practice rooms are wonderful, and there is a fairly large music department here at tufts. A lot of non-majors take classes for fun, and music groups are generally well received on campus.
If you want, you can private message me and I’ll link you to a music major here to talk about it.

Since the Granoff Music Center was built, the music department has really flourished in terms of music students and ensembles. Even if you’re not a music major, you can still participate in a wide variety of ensembles -from the traditional (wind ensembles, concert choirs, etc.) to the unique (Gamelan ensembles, Klezmer ensembles, a capella groups, etc). Overall, the department’s resources make it easy for people who have differing passions in music to express themselves.
