Tufts premed?

That’s for UG, you cannot claim you are resident by attending UG in CA no matter how many yrs.

But medical school at least UCSF (I don’t know other UC medical schools) is different. How exactly to do it, I don’t know. But I heard you can do it. UCSF is hard to get in anyway, but it does accept OOS.

Note that I am not an expert on this subject and I only have second hand knowledge, but for those who want to investigate it further, here is the basic idea :

In some states the state med schools are (relatively) easier to get into due to preferential treatment of in-state residents and a (relatively) favorable ratio of number of in-state applicants to number of slots.

In all states you can gain residency status by living (independently) and working (i.e. paying taxes) in the state for a period of time that varies by state and sometimes by school and/or degree program within the school.

When you graduate, you get a “real” job (i.e. not a student job) in your state of choice for the period of time required to establish residency and then apply to the state school.
Of course there are pros/cons/risks to this idea and it should be carefully researched before attempting to execute it.

For example, in Massachusetts, UMass Med is only available to Mass residents. As it turns out, there is a 1-year, in-state residency requirement for undergrad, but a 5-year, in-state residency requirement for med school.

It appears that Texas only has a 1-year, in-state residency requirement for med school…

Maybe they count MS1 as one yr, so you become resident afterwards? Just a guess. This is for med though, not UG. To be clear.
