...specifically Conversation Action Faith Education, or C.A.F.E. A google search turns up F.I.T., Wilderness, F.O.C.U.S., and then repeats. I have actually seen next to nothing posted about the C.A.F.E. program.

It looks really interesting to me personally (I enjoy talking about deep stuff like this and it looks to be a great personal fit) but I'd like to be better informed. Anyone know anyone who took it or took it themselves? I'd rather not sign up for something boring and preachy... but the program description just jumped out at me as something fun.

The program is very new, only 2 or 3 years I believe, which is probably why you aren’t finding many results. It’s a small program with around 10 participants, meaning you’ll make close bonds with the other students. A friend of mine did the program this year and loved it a ridiculous amount (is that even a grammatically correct sentence? I’m not sure). He’s very liberal, and also said that there were people with many different viewpoints. I was actually surprised at how diverse the group sounded in terms of religion/philosophy, being that it was only 8 or so kids. It’s definitely not “boring or preachy,” but instead offers students a chance to discuss amongst themselves rather than have someone lecture at them. It sounds like a neat program, and if you think it fits you, you’re probably right. I say go for it!

A question for Dan – if DS does not get chosen for TWO, is there any chance to apply for another pre-orientation program? Do they all fill up in the first round?

I’m actually one of the coordinators for CAFE this year and did the program my freshman year as well, so feel free to ask me any questions! It’s not preachy at all, more about promoting meaningful discussion and sharing traditions. Honestly, it’s been one of my best experiences at Tufts. This will be the third year CAFE has offered a pre-orientation so we’re very new but growing! It’s a lot of fun. We take time to get to know both Tufts and Boston and have a lot of bonding time activities: baking, games, staying up almost all night just talking… That last one might not have been planned and just ended up happening Seriously though, some of my best friends are the people I did pre-orientation with.

supportivemom1- The pre-orientation system just got changed this year so no one knows exactly how things will plan out. Right now, there is a second round planned for students who are waitlisted in other programs IF there are spaces in other programs. If all of the programs fill up however, there’s not much we can do. Some programs have a bit more flexibility than others but not generally! As I said, since it’s the first year pre-orientations have been done this way, we’re only guessing at the outcome!
