I got into Tufts and Gtown SFS, and I want to study international relations. Tufts is giving me money (all loans will be converted to grants), and Georgetown is giving me nada. Also, when I visited Tufts I got a pretty good vibe about the place, whereas gtown has a reputation for elitism (haven't visited yet). But then again, gtown's SFS one of the best IR programs in the country. Plus, it's in DC, which has unbeatable opportunities.

thoughts?

How do you know about the finances from Tufts already?

To answer your question, I think you really need to visit. I am interested in IR myself, and after visiting Georgetown I decided not even to apply and that Tufts was my first choice. That said, my cousin went to Georgetown for IR and had a wonderful experience. Both are wonderful schools and both provide excellent connections (competition for them is a little bit higher at Georgetown- students are more 'resume oriented' but if you're a strong candidate that won't matter). People are going to tell you a lot of things but in the end you are going to do best at the place that's right for you so, visit, ask questions of currents students, and see what feels right.

I actually got my acceptance letter from Tufts in like mid-March because I was awarded a scholarship for African-American students called the Balfour-Chenault Scholarship.

And yeah, I know I should visit. Just wanted to hear what people had to say about the two schools.

Wow that's crazy. You're one of the VERY select few that Tufts gives out a scholarship to. The university itself never gives out any scholarships - only the private sector within Tufts does. Georgetown SFS and Tufts IR are pretty much the same in terms of academic prestige and vigor of curriculum.

I'm a freshman at Tufts (from D.C.) who is currently majoring in IR (international relations). IR is the most popular, and most demanding major on campus and we have basically the best school out there for it. Plus, we have the Fletcher School, the grad school of IR. I would say come here if you are really dependent on the money/major. Also, if you get a good vibe from Tufts and a bad one from gtown (but don't go there expecting a bad one, be open!), then go to Tufts. You can always get an internship in DC for a summer w/the State Dept., and Boston also offers great opportunities. I'd say go with Tufts at this point.
