My final decision comes down to Tufts vs. Holy Cross. I have been accepted to the PreMed program at Holy Cross, which is very strong. I plan on attending medical school and becoming a doctor after college.

I am leaning slightly towards Tufts, but I would very much like a second opinion.

Help me decide!

I’m a Holy Cross grad and parent of a HC grad. I’ve weighed in on HC in quite a few posts, including on the college’s great success with its pre-med program and the eminent physicians who have graduated from HC. I’m sure you can find those posts (if I cannot find them and link them here) through the search button above.

Tufts is a great school, no doubt. Hopefully you have visited both colleges and can use those visits to help you decide where you best fit in as I believe either one would be great for pre-med. You may find other things (campus, sports teams, location, food, etc) about one of the colleges that tilts the balance for you. I believe The Cross will be having an “accepted students weekend” or something to that effect–attending that, if it’s convenient, would help you get a look at some of your potential clasmates at least. Tufts probably does the same thing.

I think Holy Cross is the greatest college there is–but I’m biased, of course. Good luck with your decision—and let’s see if you or I can find the path to my earlier brilliant postings on the subject of HC and pre-med.

Found it: Here’s a link to another thread with some commentary of HC’s pre-med program

Where do you live? Visit both schools if you can. We’re incredibly different schools - I suspect visiting may clarify your choice.

Yeah; I would definitely say visit both schools to see which one you feel most comfortable at.

Holy Cross has a strong Catholic population, whereas Tufts has a strong Jewish population. Tufts has a lot of diversity (I believe the entering class has 30% students of color?), whereas Holy Cross is lagging in that area. Though Tufts is in a suburban area, it’s close to Boston, whereas Holy Cross is in Worcester. I can go on and on, but like everyone else says, try visiting both schools.

When I was deciding on schools, I had a tough decision choosing between Tufts and Holy Cross, mainly because Holy Cross gave me more money. Though I liked the strong Catholic presence and have previously visited Holy Cross and liked the campus, I did not like Worcester, and I wanted to be closer to Boston. Another thing I didn’t like was the lack of variety of work-study options they had…may not be the case for you, but I needed work-study and most work-studys ended up working at the dining halls there. I also felt that Holy Cross had more of a homogeneous student body.

However, the feeling I had when I visited Tufts was almost indescribable…as corny as that sounds, it’s true. I did the Telescope program (now called “Voices”), and the group of people I have met clicked so well, it was as if we all had known each other for a long time. I basically felt at home at Tufts. Even though I had to pay a bit more to go here, I knew it was worth it.

Visiting really makes a difference. Whether it be at Holy Cross or Tufts, you’ll know where you belong once you visit that campus and immediately feel like you’ve come home. I couldn’t even imagine myself being happy at another college, not as happy as I am being here at Tufts. :)

One thing that you won’t have to decide between is whether you want a hilly campus or not! LOL! Big time hills at both!

I’d definitely visit as they are quite different. More than likely, one will defeintely feel like “home” to you more than the other.

Good Luck!
