Tufts vs W&M

Hey All,

I'm a senior deciding between Tufts and W&M. I'd either do Dbl Major Engineering/Liberal Arts or 3-2 Liberal Arts/Engineering at W&M/Columbia.

I'm torn between the two schools. They're so similar and so different in some respects. After attending the AOH at both schools, I'm still undecided. The only difference I can percieve right now is the price

Help me.......

W&M would be my choice. W&M is every bit as well respected as Tufts... (except in premed) Did you say the campuses were similiar? W&M is supposedly one of most beautiful campuses in the country

When it comes down to it, where do you want to be Massachusetts or Virginia?

WM is indeed a nicer campus, but Tufts is nice enough that it's not an issue, especially since Tufts is closer to Boston. This in my mind works out to a tie...

Academically, which is better?

Someone I know transferred from W&M to Tufts because he said that atmosphere was extremely cut-throat and not very nice, but I guess the reason for his transfer is obviously backed by his perception. It's only a single opinion, but from what I've heard, it's an excellent school. Isolated in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do though.

My choice came down to Tufts and William and Mary (and Bowdoin). I chose Tufts primarilly because it was closer to home, and also because I wasnt sure how I felt about paying so much more than in-state kids at WM in tuition there to get the exact same education. They are nearly the same size, and I like History alot so I actually thought Colonial Williamsburg was pretty cool, so I did not pick Tufts because of its proximity to Boston, which I dont really even go to that much because there is plenty to do on campus. The old part of WM's campus is indeed fantastic but Tufts Academic Quad area is indeed great also. Where the dorms are at both schools is nothing special in beauty at all. With nearly 2/3 of the kids from instate, WM will offer much less geographic diversity than Tufts, but as a public school probably more economic diversity. Academically, I felt it was extremely close, but Tufts endowment is growing alot each year and it is definately a school on the rise. I dont know about WM in particular, but public schools like UMASS and UCBerk can be at the whim of the state legislatures, and have had to make big cuts in recent years; a private school like Tufts is more stable financially and is only going to get better. I would chose Tufts again in a heartbeat.
