At Penn does the tuition everyone pays depend on the number of classes they take, or is it set for all students (ignoring financial aid right now)?

It’s a flat fee for the semester

the only variance might be if you have a lab fee for certain classes (like chem lab), which would tack on a little

but otherwise as long as you have above 2.5 credits you are a full-time student and pay the standard rate for tuition

Another wrinkle is that one used to be able to prepay tuition for all eight semesters, thereby locking in one rate for four years. At an 8-10% rate of tuition inflation, that’s a significant savings, as long as you have the cash or can borrow at a lesser rate.

@neuron39:

You can’t do that anymore?

of note is that summer classes count as extra semesters and are charged on top of yearly tuition.

I don’t know if it’s still possible to prepay tuition for all four years. Does anyone else know?

I looked into it, and it’s possible. It’s called Tuition Stabilizer Plan.

Tuitton and fees have actually gone up a little less than an average of 5% at Penn in recent years - from $30,716 in 2004-2005 to $38,970 in 2009 - 2010.
