My dad says that Smeal students have to pay extra tuition (like 2-3k more) for their 3rd and 4th years that students at other colleges at PSU don't

I can't find anything regarding this. Is this true or is he wrong?

It’s true. Everyone’s tuition increases once they reach 5th semester standing, but the amount depends in which college you are in. You can find the rates for 2008-2009 here: [University Park, Hershey, Dickinson, and Great Valley Tuition Rates](University Park, Hershey, Dickinson, and Great Valley Tuition Rates 2008)

Oh I see

But I see that Smeal, Eberly science, and Engineering all pay the same rate

I thought it was just Smeal that had to pay more

No it’s all of those colleges. They say it’s because most upperclass students take classes taught by more expensive instructors, and students in science, engineering, and business use more resources.

Well I just received my tuition bill, but how come my tuition only increased by the normal 4.5%?

It went from 12,567 last semester to 13,138 this upcoming fall semester (which is an increase of 4.5%, the normal rate for OOS)

However, since I’m heading into my junior year, wouldn’t there be a bigger jump in tuition, as ur link shows?

I’m confused

the higher rate follows how many credits you have, when you hit 59.1 it goes up (check the footnote on the table)
How many credits do you have?

so far I’ve completed 57 credits at PSU + 4 AP credits

So I guess the higher rate will start in the spring semester rather than fall semester?
