Tuition Exchange - Fall 2019 Apps for Fall 2020 Frosh

@DeeCee36 That’s great! Too bad about the pressure for a Feb 15 decision, though. I’m really surprised to hear that colleges do this with TE. The ones D20 applied to said they are targeting April for their decision dates, so if a second choice came in now I don’t know what we would do.

@DeeCee36 - can you tell us what college made the TE offer already?
Its hard waiting til April to make final decision. Even harder to make a decision with your daughter before all the cards are on the table.

@alogan York College of Pennsylvania.

S20 was just admitted to WPI! Small merit award – $50K over 4 years – and a loooong wait until April to hear about TE.

But good news nevertheless!

Hi all. Congrats @DeeCee36 . D20 in to 9 of 11 schools, but absolutely no TE or CIC decisions yet. Most generous merit was $5,000 under full tuition (combined scholarship and grant). Most merit so far averaging half-tuition. Reached out to all TE liasons-- have a chart of expected TE decision dates based on their responses ranging from Jan 15 to Apr 15. The wait begins…

My daughter is not in the top academic tier as most of the students in this discussion. Great student involvement and a 31 ACT. She has applied for Tuition Exchange to Baylor, University of Portland, Belmont, Manhattan College, Saint Louis University, and Illinois Institute. She has been approved for TE from Illinois Institute and Belmont. Her top choice is SLU because of its engineering program.

Santa came a little early with an acceptance and TE offer from Simmons University in the mail today. So relieved that D20 is going to have affordable options!

Woo hoo @DeeCee36! My D22 is interested in nursing and I hope she’ll consider Simmons. But…she’s at an all- girls school now and it’s no because of it.

FYI. D’s friend is at Simmons studying nursing. Went because of access to placement at Boston hospitals. Attends frat parties at BU and Neastern. Think Being in Boston makes it feel less single sex.

I’ve worked that angle as well with DD. We’ve only visited Emmanuel so far but their nursing is brandy new. My S19 is at Wentworth (TE) and D20 is going to Northeastern (not TE unfortunately…) so I’m putting on the Boston sell pretty hard.

Just a quick update:

TE received at DePaul (full tuition) yesterday. We haven’t visited yet but are now making plans to go.

NMSF full tuition at Fordham, so we are planning a trip there too.

Also received TE at Wooster, but DD has decided it is too rural.

Still waiting for 3 other TE schools. She has been accepted with good merit at two, so fingers crossed.

(She is a high stats kid and a good writer, but I was still worried because the TE process has gotten very competitive. )

Congrats realmmom! We have 12 TE apps out there and radio silence as of now…
Some generous merit money on the table but still waiting on TE.

Anyone get any TE decisions yet (beside on previous threads).
It’s going to be a long winter:(

@alogan no we won’t hear back from any of ours until late March!!!

yikes, long winter indeed!

People have posted in prior years that some colleges start extending offers in February.

Some schools (Skidmore is an example I think) extend more offers than slots they want to fill, knowing some students won’t take it. Others run wait lists. We had different experiences with wait lists. S14 was wait listed at his #1 and when we followed up after May 1 they extended an offer. D19 came off the waitlist at Pitt a few weeks after May 1 (we didn’t contact and am not even sure we knew she was on a list). What’s hard is that making that May 1 decision can be so difficult for the student and such a relief when it’s done that revisiting after a waitlist decision can be tough.

All done in this household but remember the stress well. Good luck to all!

Tuition exchange received at Pitt. (I shared earlier that she received TE at DePaul and Wooster, National Merit Semifinalist at Fordham).

Woot! Congrats to you and your kiddo @realmmom !

Wow. Three already. Congrats!
