You can search on the TE website for schools that include room and/or board.
My institution participates in CIC, too. Two of the schools my D20 is applying participate in both. One school is very transparent about how CIC works there --there are 3 slots and they are offered on a first come, first served basis. I’m not sure if it is the same everywhere. Many of my colleagues have had success with the CIC exchange in the past, so I gather it is not nearly as competitive as TE.
Also, regarding Villanova’s exports…the TE liaison at my home institution told me there must be balance between imports and exports. Our institution isn’t in high demand, so participation (as an export) is limited for us to just 5 slots (by lottery).
Got a note from WPI earlier this week noting that that the their TE scholarship is $38K.
WPI tuition and fees for 2020-21 are listed on their website as $54,346, making the net $16, 346. If you can get the TE.
MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering) is a great school, it has very high rankings and just joined the Tuition Exchange.
Update… into 5 of 11 schools D20 applied to early decision with $20,000 - $30,000 merit at each (although she is well above average profile for those schools). Having some success getting feedback and tracking down real TE contact at all 10 schools applied to. Some have even gone so far as to say how many applicants they have so far and how many they expect to award this year-- best info from TE liaisons is when decision will be made (which often differs from TE website date).
*early action (of course)… still can’t get that in my head…
@maleitag we are in a similar boat. D20 has gotten in to her top two choices, both TE schools. Merit offered was quite generous, but for her #1 choice, we need TE to make it happen. I’m hopeful that the generosity of the merit package offered is a good sign that she is a highly competitive candidate for the TE award.
I did reach out to the TE liaison to try get a handle on how it is there, but didn’t get much information back. I wish the whole process was more transparent. It’s going to be a long wait for D20… (and, me!).
Some questions… D is a junior so just trying to figure out TE. When application is reviewed do the officers know if you are applying for TE? Also, has anyone had success with TE at Skidmore? D loved Skidmore but from other forums Skidmore seems so competitive to get into RD, forget about TE. Also wondering about TE success at other New England schools not in Boston? We have also looked at Mount Holyoke and Roger Williams (safety). Her GPA 4.2 weighted and 1320 SAT. Thanks!
Our son’s applications were submitted in early Oct and my wife was not approved for TE until last week. So I am guessing most if not all of the colleges he applied to wont know about him trying to use the TE benefit.
Hi @DeeCee36 Which 2 schools on the CIC did your daughter apply to and which 2 did she hear back from?
@maleitag -Which schools have you heard from so far?
My D20 applied to about 14 TE schools. She heard back from one, however the “financial package” is being sent out in a couple of weeks per the admissions office. The waiting is torture
Thanks, that is helpful!
My colleague’s S was awarded TE at Skidmore not long ago. He graduated in 2018. I don’t know his stats, but judging from the other schools he got into, my guess is that they were quite high. Another colleague’s D was awarded TE at Villanova a few years ago, but didn’t take it because she got into Notre Dame instead. Again, given that she was admitted to ND, my guess is that her stats were also quite high. Another colleague’s D is a junior at American on TE, and another colleague’s D is graduating in May from Trinity (CT) with TE. I don’t know anyone’s stats.
Despite these success stories, I’m still approaching TE as a long shot. As I mentioned in an earlier post, none of the TE officers I spoke with were very optimistic. Perhaps it’s because of the TE schools my D20 is applying to (Villanova, Skidmore, Fordham, Lafayette, for example), but I don’t know.
@alogan My d20 has applied to 2 CIC schools: Drew University and York College of PA. She has been accepted at YCP, but we’ve not heard anything about CIC or TE yet.
She has also been accepted at a TE school and received a generous merit aid package, but we won’t hear about the TE award for a few months yet. I agree, the wait is torture!
soliciting opinions…my D20 has been accepted at a TE school, with a generous merit aid package. Obviously, we would love for her to get TE, but even if she doesn’t, I think we can still swing it. I’m curious about whether committing before TE awards are made would be advantageous (demonstrating that she is a sure thing) or not (she’s already coming, they don’t need to entice her with the lure of TE)? Thoughts?
@DeeCee36 Congrats to you and D20!
I’m a noob here but I think the TE veterans would recommend as follows:
Try to establish the likely TE amounts at target schools. Some schools will openly list their TE award as the “set rate” ($37,000 in 2019-20) or for “tuition” (which is usually significantly more). When in doubt, contact the TE officer at the target schools directly; they tend to be fairly responsive.
Good luck!
My son is in a similar situation. This is my first time through this but I would wait until they reach out to your D again and have her say this College is my first choice but I need to see if I get one of the TE scholarships before she can commit.
We heard back from D20’s #2 choice school today - she got the TE!
The only thing is…the offer is only good until February 15th. I really would have preferred for her to have all of her options on the table before deciding, but I have no idea when the other schools will make their TE decisions (I did reach out and was told “before April 1”). Also, although she did a visit, I was hoping she could attend an accepted student day event before deciding, as well, but that isn’t scheduled until March.
Lots to think about…
