@RealMom
Thank you for the very valuable information! Did she decide on a school yet?
Not yet. Of the places we visited, Pitt is her favorite right now, but we haven’t been to DePaul or Fordham. We are heading to Chicago and New York over the next few months. I have heard such great things about Pitt and we love the city. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is where she ends up.
@RealMom
Congrats! Such an exciting (albeit stressful) time
Just got our first TE acceptance at
Catholic U in DC (way down on her list) and our first rejection for Both TE and CIC at U Scranton which is her first choice and devastating. Still waiting on remaining 8. Been getting good merit but when the net is still $12,000 a year for tuition it’s hard to pass up TE. Also worried… need is higher bc we have two in school which halves our EFC so feeing nervous she would only have the extra “need based grant” for 2 years while her brother is still in school and then the difference is severe.
D20 got catholic too! What is your child’s major?
My son is looking to go to Law School. He is not locked in on a major yet but there are a number of majors at Catholic that would work well. He really likes Providence and Fordham but he is the type of kid that will be happy wherever he lands. He has a couple of good options now (including Export University) which was all we were hoping for.
S19 just finished his first semester at a TE school and don’t forget you’ll be getting a 1098t for the value of the “scholarship.” Not sure what that will do taxes:)??
S23 is a long ways off but close enough where I am reading through info to help get data.
Anyone have any recent info about College of Idaho?
Does SLU charge a per credit hour fee to incoming TE students?
@D17D21 Yes, SLU appears to have a $75 per credit hour charge, so it is not quite a full tuition scholarship, but close. Still a great bargain if you can get it!
Third and final TE offer came through today. Goucher College ?
So, D20 got TE at Catholic U and now St. Joe’s. St. Joe’s is saying she only has 10 days to accept-- my husband confirmed that TE doesn’t allow that! Anyone else given a deadline? Also got TE at Desales and Marymount and 3rd on waitlist for Mt. Saint Mary’s. Still waiting TE Decision on Loyola, Salve (both have the $38,000 cap), Elon (which I know is a no), and Jefferson. Still sore about the U Scranton rejection as its her first choice. Anyone have experience using TE in other schools to leverage more financial aid elsewhere?
We were given a feb 15 deadline to accept from one school. I asked for an extension and got it.
Thanks @DeeCee36 ,More than one school has told us that TE just sent a memo reminding schools that they are not allowed to set deadlines before May 1. Anyone else have experience?
@maleitag
my friends daughter rec’d TE at Scranton for 3rd and 4th year.
Hi, we are still waiting on communication from DePaul and Saint Joseph’s in Philly. It sounds like DePaul may have made offers but my daughter hasn’t received a rejection. Has anyone’s student applied and received TE at Saint Joe’s? Thanks!
@maleitag A colleague told me she called a TE school around May 1 and said her daughter would 100% go to the school if she received TE (she had other TE offers, but she preferred the place she hadn’t received TE). She got a call the next day from the top school with an offer of TE. I don’t know if the school wasn’t hitting enrollment targets and used TE to get this student, but she just graduated last year and is doing great. It was a partial TE school, although I don’t know if that makes a difference.
@maleitag I would definitely call Scranton and express that your child would commit if there was a TE offer. You have nothing to lose!
How many people on this thread have received rejections of TE benefit so far? My son has another 9 outstanding but no rejection letters at this point.
@Gurteen D20 only applied for TE at three places, but we are still in the dark…
