Great news! After reading last years thread it seems like this one is pretty quiet. Hopefully it will get a little more exciting down the road.
Thank you so much for the spreadsheet I read that thread all last year=)
I have a question. Do you have to wait until youâre finished applying at every school to submit the TE to your work? Weâve applied to 1/2 but I wanted to submit the TE form to get in early but was worried it might negatively impact the half we havenât applied to yet.
Thanks
Jen
The process is different at every employer school, but my understanding is you can submit the TE app as soon as you would like.
I am CIC, but our liaison said to get certified and put in our info ASAP so we did that a few weeks ago. Some of the schools sheâd been considering then are off the table now, but none have been added. (ETA: and no applications have been submitted yet.)
Hi Jen,
I think the order is like this:
- Get approval from your home institution to apply for TE (since they only have X number of slots)
- Submit the form to them that indicates the schools youâll apply to for TE
- Apply to the schools (your TE rep uses the form in #2 to tell them youâre a TE applicant)
I donât think the order of #2 and #3 matters up to a point if itâs early. I doubt any schools are making TE offers at the moment, so you could (I presume) do #3 and then #2. But later in the process you want the schools youâre applying to to know youâre applying for their TE so that they include your app in that list.
Just an FYI. There were a few schools last year that made TE offers in Oct and November. The earliest one I am aware of is Case Western, which made TE offers end of October (a colleagueâs daughter received acceptance towards the end of Oct and a TE offer two days later).
That is exciting. Would love to hear early rather than waiting until late spring. Now if I could just get my kid to get her apps in.
Wow, I am shocked by that. Case Western didnât release admissions decisions for ED1/EA until December last year.
Yes, they were surprised to hear so quickly. This was an early action application, not ED. She is an exceptional student but decided to go somewhere else (an Ivy school).
We had a few early offers in November - Ursinus, Hendrix, and Lake Forest. I think itâs in the excel (the earliest dates I could find in the thread for different TE offers). I donât remember Caseâs offers being so early. Thatâs surprising! In the excel I had the earliest Case offer in early February.
My D24 turned in 5 of her early applications. Only around 5 to go! Feeling a little bit of relief
I canât take the waiting already lol.
Does this process dampen the excitement of gaining acceptance for any other kids than mine?
Our kid got into a few schools and selective programs they were very much hoping for, but knowing it depends on if they get TE has not allowed them to feel true excitement from acceptance
attended the tuition exchange meeting at work today. Turned in the form. After this, just waitingâŠ
I guess the uncertainty took away some of the excitement. Hopefully, you will know soon.
Yep. Not only that but when you have more than one kid, it adds an extra level of stress. My first got offered multiple TEs, my second (a better student) got 1, and that took a while to come through. The third (the best academically)is feeling the pressure that the others were fortunate to get it, but it appears that TE is getting harder to get, and he is worried that the two TE schools he applied to wonât offer him one (not all TE schools have the program he is interested in).
If youâre willing to share what program heâs interested in, others may be able to share schools that might have similar offerings to a major even if they donât have a major called that. For instance, neuroscience is often comprised of a number of psychology and biology classes. @ColdWombat may also have additional insight to provide.
I get that completely. My kid was applying direct admit PA and got in to two already and the one notated that Iâd seats fill before they accept that theyâll be on the wait list. Sheâs so anxious now since we have the same issue. Very limited number of schools offer it, although are applied to biochemistry and forensic science to a bunch of others. Does your kid have a related major they be happy with? Weâve researched a lot of science schools and could help with that field
We just turned in several applications so we havenât head back on any acceptances yet. I do think it will feel anxious waiting for TE. My daughter knows that she probably wonât be able to attend her top choices unless we receive the TE. I have tried to have her branch out to some state schools that would probably give good aid just in case we donât get TE. She doesnât want to do that. I asked her if she would consider going to our home school if she doesnât get TE and she said no that she would go to community college and try again the next year. I get it, she has grown up around our small home school and canât see her going where her Dad works. Makes it tough though.
I feel this. We went through this with our oldest son who graduated high school in '21; he was a very good student and got several TE offers. We are going through it now with twins. Twin 1 is an even better student than our oldest, but I worry that TE had become even more competitive since he went through. Twin 2 is less gifted academically but has other strengths. His top choice is a state school within our budget, so that takes some pressure off. Still, this process is so nerve-wracking.
