Tuition Increases for 2011/2012

The University of Virginia:

Housing went up 4.5%. Meal plan options went up an average of 3.7%.

FSU tuition up 15%. It went up 15% last year AND the year before.

The good news is that before these hikes Florida ranked 48th in the nation in the price of tuition/fees at state U’s. The bad news is that the legislature is allowing/encouraging universities to increase tuition 15% a year every year until tuition is at a national average. It is projected that if the increase is at 15% every year, it will take 10 years IF the national average increases 7% a year. My guess is that it will take longer :(

UIUC 9.5% “to help offset an $8 million cut in state funding.”

The one silver lining is that at Illinois publics, entering freshmen are guaranteed that they will pay the same tuition throughout their careers, as long as they graduate within 9 semesters.

Northwestern 4.4%
Swarthmore 3.8%
