Tuition Insurance and Pre-existing Mental Health Issues

My daughter is an incoming freshman and she has some relatively recently diagnosed mental health issues. She is currently doing better, but she is still in treatment. I have heard suggestions from this forum on getting tuition insurance and I am looking into it right now, but it seems like insurance through the college does not cover pre-existing conditions. There is a waiver, but I am not quite clear on how this works. I will call the insurance provider, of course, but does anybody have any personal experiences with actually getting a waiver? Is there any kind of paperwork we need to get from the doctor? Or is it even worth it to try to get the tuition insurance at this point?

Dewar covers previous diagnoses. What company are you dealing with?

The company is Allianz. I looked at Dewar and it looks like you can only get it if it is offered by the school.

Allianz does cover preexisting conditions in the situation that follows:

A. The insured student , on the plan purchase date, did not have any symptoms of the pre-existing condition and was medically able to attend school for the covered term;

In other words, if the preexisting condition is under control enough for the student to attend, but then becomes worse enough that the student needs to leave, it may be covered. I would talk to them-maybe a supervisor. Also tuition refund insurance means you not only get money back but you get the financial aid paid to you.

You need sufficient documentation from professionals to support the claim of course.
