tuition payment

when must tuition be paid, and how does the payment system work. in other words, does tuition have to be paid in full by a certain date, or are there monthly payments throughout the year? will they send out a notice of how much we owe and when the payment is due? also if we have outside scholarships, do we have to pay now and have the money refunded once md receives the scholarship check?

There is something called Terp Payment Plan. You are allowed an int. free payment plan. They have 2 different plans, 10 or 8 equal pmts. Every semester to sign up for next semester you must have a 0 balance for that semester, otherwise they will put a block on your account. If you have a scholarship they will pay it straight to your acct, and usually it gets credited to your account around Oct.

Don’t expect anything to be sent via snail-mail…and the emails will go directly to your student. The current bill (if you are not using the Terp Payment Plan) is due Aug 20, but I assume you can work with the bursar’s office re: scholarship payments. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the Terp Payment Plan, instead of interest, charges a set-up fee at the beginning of the semester.

Yes, it is $75 for a yr…cheap in my eyes, when it comes to the stock market being in the tank and next month you could recoup.

the billing statement for housing and meal plan is posted already, which is due Aug 20th…Does anyone know when they put up the billing statement for the tuition fees? I know that if you are registered for classes after july 25th…then it is due by sept 20th.

i actually just recieved the email about tuition and stuff, but thanks guys anyway for the helpful points!

ohh also…does anyone know if we can pay the tuition fees by credit card…or does it have to be bank draft or bank transfer?

SAS - yes, you can pay tuition and fees by credit card AND, most importantly, UMD does not charge any fees to do this like some other schools. This question was asked at the parents session of my S’s orientation.
ahhh. thanks!

im enrolling in the 8 month terp payment plan, but i have a quick question … if i wanted to calculate the exact amount i needed to pay this year then would i just double the amount in the Total Account Balance ?? oh and the Stafford loans arent going to be updated for a few more weeks right ? because it doesnt show under the credits section

also, the mandatory fee of 743.50 only has to be payed once right

NYC: I’d call UMD and ask. I know my Stafford loans were already credited to my account.

D sent an email to the financial aid office on loans: “The loans will be disbursed into students’ accounts beginning Aug. 17th.” was the response…

For questions about getting outside scholarships credited to your account, call 301-405-9040. The employee is very helpful and pleasant.

SAS, one thing they specified during the Financial Aid briefing at Orientation was that you CANNOT pay using credit card if you are using the Terp Payment Plan.

i was late in signing up for the UnitedHealthCare insurance plan, so im doing it right now but im guessing you have to pay immediately because it asks for credit card info ?? what happens if i dont sign up for the insurance today ? can i pay at a later time ??

I think they will bill you, since July 31st was the waiver day, they probably bill everyone who doesn’t get a waiver completed.
