Tuition Refund Insurance Policy

Hi,

My daughter will be attending UCB this Fall 2014 and I just paid the tuition this morning. Now I am wondering if I should even buy a Tuition Refund Insurance just in case to be prepared for unforeseen medical/other circumstances and if so, where do I buy that from? Could anybody on this list advise me on what should be my steps to follow ? Where can I get such a tuition refund insurance -- I mean what are the reliable companies? Normally how much do they cost?

Looking forward to hear from another parent/student asap.

Thank you so much!

all the information on refunds, withdrawals, and cancelations of registration can be found here: http://registrar.berkeley.edu/canwd.html#top</a></p>

Generally they cost 1-5% of the tuition for the current semester. This isn’t very common as only two companies in the US provide it, which can be found here: <a href=“Tuition Insurance: Do or Don’t | Fastweb”>Tuition Insurance: Do or Don’t | Fastweb;

I have only known one person who did this, the reason being their child/student had a pre-existing chronic illness that at any time could rapidly worsen to the point where they wouldn’t be able to attend school. The most important thing to know is that, both companies available do not ensure semesters that have already past. Meaning that, if your daughter were to attend berkeley for 3 semesters, and in her fourth semester she needed to withdraw due to medical reasons, only the 4th semester fees would be insured, not the previously completed 3.

Thank you for the info. That was helpful!
