Tulane.... a fit for my S?

Hi all.. My S is a rising Senior and has just started to show some interest in Tulane after a chat with an admissions rep at his school. So far he has mostly been interested in small LAC's in a location that would embrace his love of the outdoors. He is an Eagle Scout, competition level rock climber, rescue, advanced water scuba diver, and volunteers on a search and rescue team. He has also solo backpacked many high peaks. He is passionate about conservation and has over 1000 hrs working on trials and environmental issues all over the country. He is very unpretentious, independent, and can get along with almost everybody.

Tulane looks interesting because they value community service and seem to have a very happy and inclusive student body. I think his main concern would be about the outdoor opportunites around Tulane, and if they have an active outdoor club. I'm pretty sure he is going to major in ES, but also pursue the pre-med requirements for med school. HIs ultimate goal is to be a rural ER doctor. Any suggestions or advice on whether Tulane looks like a fit would be most appreciative.

He might want to join this facebook page [Tulane Adventure Club | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook) and ask about their activities. My s has gone camping, running, does paintball, frisbee, etc. Even if the mountains are not at their backdoor, there are plenty of outdoor activities to pursue.

I assume he’s looked at this site too [Tulane University - About | Global Health Initiatives | Global Health Program | What Is Global Health](http://www.sph.tulane.edu/publichealth/about/index.cfm) with undergraduate degres in
Environmental Health Sciences
Global and Community Health
Health Informatics
Public Health, Undecided

I grew up in Colorado, lived in the Northeast, and have been in Louisiana for about 25 years. I did a lot of hiking and backpacking growing up. My reaction:

Pretty good opportunities to scuba dive around the rigs in the gulf of Mexico; the gulf of Mexico is a really interesting place to do hands-on environmental studies. New Orleans is only about 3 hours away from some very nice beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, and I fell in love with the beach.

The outdoor club I joined when I moved here did some really interesting things locally - day canoe trips through a swamp; sailing lessons on a local lake, etc, but honestly a good bit of their focus was organizing long-weekend trips to Arkansas or week long trips to other states where there was good hiking and backpacking, whitewater rafting, skiing etc.
