I know, compared to all of the CCers on here, I suck. But hey, stuff happens and you can't get perfect grades all the time :p

Anyways, your input would be appreciated. Also, suggest any schools that I should look into :) I would really like to get OUT of CA.

Oh, and I will chance back! :)

bump! someoneeee chance me!

With a 2200 SAT and a 4.2 W GPA you will be competitive. Your unweighted 3.7 GPA is a little low -but you know that already. You are very accomplished. Too bad your sophomore year was better than your Junior year. Schools like steady improvement. But you’ll get into a great college. You are obviously college material and already have college credits behind you.

Tulane University (Political Economy Major!!) - You will be competitive
Boston University - Reach school
UC Irvine- You will be competitive
UCLA - Reach school
Carnegie Mellon - Reach school
Georgetown - Reach school
NYU - Low reach school
Cal Poly SLO - This is not a safety school it is now a low reach for you

Pomona and Whittier College as safeties - You will be very competitive

Some amazing schools you might like are University of Virginia (UVA is an awesome school especially if you like politics and law it is one of the best in the nation and a beautiful campus), University of Colorado Boulder (to get out of CA and see some beauty), University of Washington (Seattle is the exact opposite of So Cal if you want a real change), also take a real serious look at Brown University. Brown might be an absolutely perfect fit for you. One more, William and Mary in Virginia. Excellent politics, law and dates back to colonial times. It is right up there with Georgetown, etc.

Good luck!!

If you have schools that are even higher reaches you may want to add those too :)

I mean, your GPA is a 3.7 but with that class rank I think that could just be subjective to your school

You look very competitive though, especially if you get a 2200+

So the fact that I’m top 5% of my class should help kind of make up for my low unweighted GPA?
I’ve considered Brown in the past, but I’ve always assumed that my GPA was way to low to get me in. I mean, it’s an amazing school in an amazing area. Do you really think that I have a shot?

What are some more match/high reach schools. I mean, I think I can present myself well. My school’s NHS is EXTREMELY competitive and I thought I wasn’t going to get in, but I somehow managed that one…
Thanks guys!

Boston University is absolutely not a reach.
That class rank really puts your GPA in perspective. You are competative at all of those schools, but georgetown and Carnegie Melon will be reaches, and UCLA might be a low reach.
I wouldnt say you are definately in at all the others, but with that bomb SAT, amazing class rank and solid grades, and decently well rounded ECs, you certainly have a good shot with good essays, recs, and a good showing your senior year. Make your senior year count, like osakadad said, the downward trend can be offputting if you dont step it up your first semester senior year.

Good Luck!

I know this year was the WORST time to screw up. My best friend committed suicide and it was all around a bad year. I don’t really want to make excuses or whatever, but stuff happens. I just hope I can turn it around and get somewhere I really want to go.
Thanks for all your guys’ help!

Oy
If you put in the work and let colleges know that you had rough personal issues junior year I’m sure they will understand.

How would I go about explaining that though? I don’t want to be a sob story or try to get sympathy, but if it wasn’t for those issues i would have gotten straight A’s.:l

I just wanted to add a couple things to my stats:
Two academic letters.
CA distinguished graduate or whatever its called. (it has something to do with date testing)
High honor roll/deans list.
