I want to major is history and go pre law. Is Tulane strong in pre law and history (New Orleans is the **** but was wondering if Tulane has good law acceptance rates....)

I have no idea what "the ****" means, but I can't imagine your wanting to be at Tulane if you hate NOLA. (Conversely, if you were saying something positive about NOLA, that seems irrelevant to your specific question--impossible to tell from your context.)

It was meant to say New Orleans is the sh**. I mean that in a good way. NOLA is one of the most fun and unique cities in the world. There really is no other city like it and it's at least as fun (albeit in different ways) as NYC or LA. Going on a mini family thing there in a couple weeks :D

My question is...is Tulane good for history?

My son majored in history. He thought it was an excellent program - he concentrated on US and Latin America. They offer some great classes with a southern US/NOLA perspective. He wasn't interested in law but his friends who were got into top tier schools.

Thanks for the info

My son majored in both economics and history and is currently in the Law School. The history department is very good with a very broad array of offerings. It is especially good in Latn American and US history. There are also a lot of interdsciplinary offerings. More than a little central american history was made right on Tulanes campus. Sam Zamurray put the banana in banana republic. He later became a major Tulane benefactor and his old mansion, perhaps the grandest on St Charles is the official home of the president of Tulane university.

The history department is great, especially in US and Latin American history, as was said before. I've had some awesome classes. Ratemyprofessors.com will be your best friend, though, because history classes are only as good as their professor, and while 80% of the professors are incredible, the rest are god-awful. Not an issue, of course, if you know who to avoid, because most of the professors are amazing.
