History Major

Can anyone tell me about their experiences with the history program at Tulane? Thank you.

Edit: Also, if anyone had anything to share about the study abroad program (particularly Ireland, but really information about any country), that would be very helpful. Thank you again.

I hope current students will chime in, but most of the ones that post here are not history majors. However, I have heard very, very good things and my D has taken 3 history courses so far and been extremely pleased. She still stops in to trade stories with one of the profs, even though she no longer has him. She thought they were all very interesting and well taught. I know when I look at the books by Tulane authors history related ones are always prominent. In fact, for Christmas I asked for one written by Prof Campanella about Lincoln’s trips to New Orleans. Outstanding, and he isn’t even in the history department but is actually a geographer working out of he Department of Bioenvironmental Research! You can look him up on the Tulane site to see why. Anyway, I have always thought of the history department as being one of Tulane’s stronger groups, with some really engaging teachers. I hope that is still true and from the bits and pieces I hear (not just from my D), it is.

Thank you, that was very helpful.
