Tulane Honors College: How do you get in?

What kind of GPA and ACT score is needed to be accepted into the honors college?

Furthermore, what kind of scholarship $ is there at a 3.95 unweighted GPA and a 34 ACT?

My daughter had similar stats and was accepted into the honors college. There is one “message” consistent throughout this site that I think is the most important for Tulane - demonstrated interest. My daughter received a smaller scholarship award than some with “lower stats”. Keep in mind these stats are only a small part of what they consider to include rigor of schedule, extracurriculars, etc… The one thing she did not do as early as others was demonstrate interest. Once she went she fell in love with school and it was her first choice but she missed a couple of early deadlines for applying for the other scholarships. One she thought she had completed but did not get received in time. We think that her scholarship may have been slightly impacted by her being a little later on her application and we didn’t tour until December. She received a very generous award (20K) and accepted to Honors but the process is getting tougher every year (She is the class of 2022). My best advice - demonstrated interest, spend time on the Why Tulane and if it your first choice make sure they know. Hope this helps.

When you stated that she had applied for “other scholarships”, are you referring to the highly competitive scholarships offered on Tulane’s website? I’ve visited the university twice, once sophomore year and once senior year. Does the suffice?
How can I explicitly state that Tulane is my first choice (which it is actually) without coming off as cliche or unoriginal?

Thanks for the advice and good luck.

Yes - she applied for the Paul Tulane; however, there was a glitch (almost certainly user error:)) and it wasn’t received in time. I think you have to both connect in your Why Tulane and show demonstrated interest - sounds like you have visited - I am assuming you registered when you visited so they know you were there? Your Why Tulane needs to be a little creative show something that reinforces that you understand the culture at Tulane and why you are a fit for them and they are your first choice. Program of study, volunteer work or maybe even your favorite part of the campus. Good luck

make your why Tulane statement amazing and you will get in! that statement is such an important factor that many overlook.

Best way to do that, obviously, is to apply ED. 25% of the most recent Tulane class came through ED (which has only been around for a few years at Tulane). I’d expect that number to continue to increase in the future. But applying ED has to make sense for you financially and otherwise.

Tulane says it considers ED applicants for merit aid. I’d believe Tulane is being honest about that, but recognize that applying ED means you wouldn’t have the opportunity to shop around among various merit offers from different schools. While you can always decline an ED offer for financial reasons, it isn’t clear if that is intended to mean only need-based aid (which you can figure pretty well from the net price calculator) as compared to merit money (which is less easy to predict).

Tulane is one of the few top schools that have ED plus EA plus a big merit money programs. Big ED schools often have little-to-no merit money. Also, Tulane has had a reputation (at least prior to adding ED) of deferring/rejecting higher stats applicants for fear that they would be unlikely to enroll and were just using TU as a safety back-up. Put that all together and it makes for a more complicated application choice than at most schools. So I think that the ED/EA/merit question is very fair to raise at Tulane.

And having that frank conversation with your TU admissions rep would be another good way to demonstrate your TU interest. Good luck.
