Tulane Honors Program vs. Wash U.

I was just accepted into Tulane's honors program and given a $22,000 scholarship, which translates to $88,000 over four years. I applied early to Wash U, but if its a toss-up on whether I'll get in, so merit based assistance is probably not happening. Even though I don't know if i'm getting into Wash U. if I do get in i'm locked in as an early, and I'm almost definitely not getting in RD.

Tulane: -probably more fun, more partying
-big fish in a small pond, and I'll probably end up applying to some form of graduate school
-New Orleans is an awesome city
-honors program has some special classes, but I don't really know how significant that is
-honors dorm, so I can get some work done
-Distinguished Scholars award

Wash U. -better school academically
-more intelligent student body
-St. Louis isn't quite New Orleans but still a good city
-more research opportunities
-name recognition
-Wash U has become my dream school, and until this offer came, I couldn't really imagine going anywhere else

Since you’ve applied ED to WashU, and don’t think you’ll get in RD, there’s not much of a decision to make.
If you get in ED, you are going. If not, this probably won’t be an issue.
That being said, all things being equal, I couldn’t imagine not picking WashU, which is fabulous. But all things are not equal, and the $88,000 over four years is tough to turn down.

The atmospheres at the two schools are completely different.

Tulane is very preppy, WashU is very laid back.
(I know a LOT about both schools; I go to WashU and I’m from nola. If you have any specific questions about Tulane and/or New Orleans, feel free to pm me).

That being said, WCASParent is right- either way it works out and you won’t be deciding between the two.

(also, for the record, the honors dorm at tulane isn’t any quieter than the other dorms)
