Tulane New President to be Announced today

BIG NEWS!!! Tulane is expected to make an official announcement about a new university president today at 4pm!

Word on the street is that it will be Michael Fitts, UPenn Law School Dean.

<a href="http://www.theneworleansadvocate.com/home/8279872-172/ivy-league-law-school-dean">http://www.theneworleansadvocate.com/home/8279872-172/ivy-league-law-school-dean</a></p>

So Fitts was confirmed as the President-elect of Tulane. As the article says, currently the Dean of U Penn Law School. Exciting times ahead. He has a tough act to follow, but it looks positive for Tulane.

He has impressive credentials, but Cowen was one of a kind. I think he’s got the competence covered but lets hope he falls in love with NOLA and has the engagin personality that Cowen is known for as well.

Congratulations to Michael Fitts on his selection as Tulane’s 15th president.
The evolution of Tulane under president Cowen has set the bar very high for Mr. Fitts. I agreee with dolphnlvr6 and extend prayers and best wishes to Mr. Fitts in leading Tulane.
A special Thank You to Co-chairs Rick Rees and Andrew Wisdom along with the other search committee members; who were charged with the unenviable job of selecting a replacement for Scott Cowen.

Exciting!!!

There appear to be a lot of things to like about Mike Fitts, and for me, at least, one of them is his commitment to and track record with interdisciplinary programs. Tulane has been, like he was at Penn Law, ahead of the field in this regard. Possibly this is one of the things that attracted him to Tulane and vice-versa. My S is in such a program at his law school and I think it will help him in these times of a difficult job market for lawyers. But it goes well beyond law. Prof. Fitts must feel a bit like a kid in a candy store, with all the potential Tulane offers his demonstrated vision in this and other areas.

An excellent, thorough article about Mike Fitts. <a href=“Business profile for theneworleansadvocate.com provided by Network Solutions”>Business profile for theneworleansadvocate.com provided by Network Solutions;

A nice article more from the Philly and Penn perspective. If he can have half the impact on Tulane job outcomes for all graduates as he has had for Penn Law, his tenure will be judged a success. Not that Tulane grads do badly now, but if we could be in the highest tier of outcomes that would be outstanding. It is an area Tulane started focusing extra energy on a couple of years ago, so his timing to come in and supercharge such an effort seems excellent.
