Tulane has the approval from AAU. AAU is strictly for Research and Tulane has been doing an excellent job for providing Research not only for Graduate School (Master and Phd) but also for Undergraduate.

Here is the quote from School of Science and Engineering:

Undergraduate

As a student in the School of Science and Engineering, you will be offered outstanding opportunities for learning and discovery in science and engineering in an environment that is student-focused, research-intensive, interdisciplinary, entrepreneurial, and responsive to the needs of the community. The School offers a broad range of undergraduate programs in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics. The undergraduate experience is further enriched by opportunities to engage in research, internships.

So, as undergraduate, the students have the opportunities in Research not only for BME but for other majors as well. This research of course is also being approved by AAU (click this: http://www.aau.edu/). I know that not many people would like to do Research but for those who have the interests and curiousity, I high recommend to apply at Tulane Univ and forget about the Ranking since ranking, especially from UNSWR, means NOTHING.

As of importance, not only Tulane has been stamped by AAU but also Tulane is a member of SURA (click this: SURA.ORG).

With the stamps from AAU and SURA, prospective students can not go wrong in choosing Tulane. When choosing a higher learning institution (college, university, etc), please dont just go by the Ranking but choose a major that you like and take a look a the school programs, school credentials, major and minor being offered, and off course the financial assistance being offered (merit aid, grants, etc), school location (NOLA is a must see city), etc.

Lastly, the choice is yours and you need to have "do the dilligence" as well. Life is good in Tulane and NOLA.
