<p>Every school goes through turmoil at some point, no matter how prestigious. CIM and CMU have both gone through upheavals of faculty and administration and have survived.</p>
<p>You have to feel for the students at CCM- its hard enough preparing for grad school auditions or major competitions without all of this kind of controversy swirling around…</p>
<p>My D is a very happy freshman at CCM. She said she hasn’t heard anything about problems with the dean. We will be watching closely to see how this unfolds.</p>
<p>Back in the day, when S2 was looking for schools, his teacher recommended against a couple otherwise great schools because he was aware of a recent or impending change in leadership, or infighting among teachers or departments. I remember that Eastman was one he was concerned about - I think the dean there was brand new. Obviously Eastman has done just fine. But it was something I would never have thought to look for.</p>
<p>If the reports are accurate, then it would seem that classical performance majors for the most part won’t be affected, but music ed and jazz students might want to watch closely.</p>
<p>Reading the article reminded me of the Atlanta Symphony’s problems a few years ago when many in the orchestra were unhappy with Joel Levi as director. The concertmaster and the newspaper were strongly in his favor, but most of the rest were against him, and it was a bitter time for everyone.</p>
