My daughter, lightweight rowing, passed preread after a month - coach called her let her know she was extremely strong academically but wasn’t actively being recruiting anymore and said she could come out for an unofficial and could check in with her at the end of Sept. My daughter’s 2k is not great. I supposed if her 2k went up (which is not likely, they could change their minds. Anyone out there ever get a call back after being turned down for an official?
No harm in checking back in September, but the coach is being kind in signalling that your daughter needs to move on to other schools if she is hoping to get a recruiting spot.
^ I agree. I know athletes who received offers for official visit quite late, like in October, that ended up with admissions support. But in those cases the athletes were kept waiting by the coach, not told clearly that there was no recruiting interest. If your daughter is considering applying anyway with no support then perhaps an unofficial would be worthwhile. But if there are other viable options available that are good athletic fits, I’d focus on those. Honestly, the coach is doing your daughter a favor with clarity early in the process.
