If you have done it, would you do it again? If you went for the Ivy, did you make the right choice?

It would depend on the situation:

Cost differences

Schools

Which they liked better

Major strength

USC is a terrific school, but there’s way too much to consider for this to be an either/or.

Wow, College Confidential has changed!

I turned down Columbia in particular for Pomona. I would definitely do it again if I went back with the knowledge of my experience here. A liberal arts experience, especially like the one at an elite school like Pomona, is simply remarkable. People here care so much about your success and your growth. I was worried about lack of resources or prestige that an LAC could not compare to with an Ivy, but it has never been an issue- Pomona is extremely prestigious, and there is far more than I could possibly do in my 4 years here. I wish I had more than 4 years- Pomona is honestly a perfect place that shouldn’t exist, but it somehow does!

Every single year people turn down Ivy and Ivy-peer offers. Reasons include all the reasons people have for choosing one college/university over another: cost, location, major, fit, and more.

Wait until all of your admissions offers are in, and you have all of your aid packages in your hands before you worry about “What if” scenarios. You still have time to think this through.

Well, USC can offer Athletic scholarships, so I could see someone getting accepted at both but going to USC because they get a scholarship.
