Turning Programs Down?

Hi! I've been kind of laxin applying to summer programs in past years, so this year I'm kind of going all out. I'm applying to a range of programs, some very selective, and I'm a bit concerned about what I would do if there was some sort of miracle and I got into every program I applied to. It would obviously be a best-case scenerio, but some programs, like the Clark Scholars, only select a very few people; if I got accepted to everything, would I be able to turn them down? Has anyone ever been in this type of a situation before? It probably won't be a problem, but I'd like to be prepared. Thanks!

Yeah it won’t be a problem. After you get your acceptance (and they ask for a deposit) you can email/call/contact them before the deadline and just say that you won’t be attending.

It depends on the program. Some of the more prestigious ones require you to attend if accepted. Of course, unless there’s some sort of mandatory deposit, it’s not 100% binding.

My son turned down Clark Scholars for another summer program. He wrote them a very nice letter, thanking them for the opportunity and said how much he regretted not being able to attend. He actually got a letter back thanking him for his letter.
