Turns out my essay is similar to something I saw online

I'm writing an essay about my doubt in the Easter bunny, and other fictitious characters to display intellectual curioisity. Turns out, there's an example college essay that talks about basically the same thing, but in a different setting. The essays do not overlap at all, besides the overall topic.

It goes without saying that I didn't copy that writer's idea because I literally just saw it, but it has to be said lol. Anyways, should I go ahead with my essay or is it too risky?

I would just write the essay and then run it through a professional plagiarism checker. If there’s a problem then, change the essay.

^^^I agree with the above. Try your best to have what they call “original” content.

If the essay is in your own unique voice and shows off your strengths as a writer, I don’t see an issue.

thanks for the advice everyone!

Tone and writing style is more important than the actual content. I think you will be fine with your original idea.
