Tutoring after self studying dilemma! Which test should I take?

Hi all.

For the past three weeks or so, I was self studying for the SAT by using Khan Academy. I wanted to improve both scores up to atleast a 31/32 ACT equivalent and after two weeks of studying improved my reading 100 points, something I was really proud of for self studying.

However, my whole studying plan went out the window when my dad found a tutor through his coworker. This tutor helped her son double his ACT score. Now (for obvious reasons) he wants me to start working with her

My dilema now is if I should do tutoring with her for the the ACT or SAT, as my dad said he will only pay for prep in one. My state/school does the SAT (so I did the PSAT 10 in school and the one Khan Academy practice). On the other hand, I don’t have any experience with the ACT, and wanted to try it as I’ve found multiple people who find it easier than the SAT. With that said, I’m concerned that the SAT studying I did before won’t overlap well with the ACT and will really put me back at square one. What should I do? Which one should I take?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The new SAT is extremely similar to the ACT, especially the writing test. Try taking a practice ACT and see what you get and compare it to your sat scores.

A strong tutor will be able to help you with either test. You should try an ACT practice test to see which one you are more comfortable with, but if the tutor is professional, he/she will let you know which test would be easier for you to achieve your highest score. The tests are not so dissimilar that skills you gain in one test can’t be applied in the other. It is still Reading, Grammar and Math skills being tested (Science is just specific reading).
