This is not about converter boxes, do I need a digital Tunder etc.

Is the Cable provided at UT HD cable?

By HD cable I mean can I get 1080p 16:9 quality broadcasts?

Thanks.

No it is not. Also, no TV is broadcast in 1080p that I know it, it’s almost all 720p/1080i.

Satellite TV Providers do broadcast some shows in 1080p.

So just to clarify, is there even 720p at UT?

Or are the students stuck watching the same quality picture that there was 10 years ago?

It is basic cable provided in the dorms. Regular definition TV that you would get from a basic cable package. You get a Coax cable to hook up directly to a tuner in your TV.

I guess they figure if somebody wants HD they can just live off campus in an apartment. I have Verizon FiOS at home, and I always hate going back to school where the picture is not widescreen and you are not getting the whole image. That’s why I just download everything off the internet. A good scene torrent tracker can get you 720p shows within 5 minutes after it finishes airing.

Which tracker do you recommend so you won’t get into trouble >_>? Is torrentleech private enough?

If you don’t need an invite to sign up, it’s not private. Sites like TPB, Demonoid, etc are not. If you can find it using google, it’s not private. TL is kinda private, since you need an invite most of the time and they are not readily available, but a lot of people know about it and you can tell that it’s a torrent tracker from the main page. Apparently they also open up registration a few times a year to the public, that is no good either.

Now, plenty of people at UT have used entirely public trackers and stuff they found searching google for “blah blah torrent” and never gotten caught. It’s just the caliber of those websites are lame and don’t have the same pre times or scene access that some private sites have.

Why use torrents when you have THE HUB?

^ And that is what exactly? Never heard of it. Google has too many different results for me to figure it out.

I thought the Hub is for UMN students? Is there UT version too?

I think I read somewhere that the Hub is a private network for file transfers at UT.

Sounds good! Where can I find it, or how can I access it?

I have no idea lol. I’d love to get in on it though.

The HUB exists but even my friends won’t tell me how to access it. Jerks.
