You’re honestly asking an ethical question on CC? Look at the threads here; they’re grossly misrepresentative of the college experience. In the college life section you’ll find orders of magnitued more threads about how to cram or how to overcome social awkwardness than say, drinking, or drug use, despite the fact that the statistics show that the latter two are far more prevalent in college. This is a very atypical community with very atypical standards. Of course nobody here will tell you to “tweak” your application; that’s because this is a top tier student community. If you’re applying to a top tier school, the degree of “tweaking” you’ll be able to get away with will depend on how they verify. If not, it doesn’t really matter one way or the other. Of course nobody will tell you to “tweak” because they’re all in competition with you. Most of them likely do it themselves, and rationalize it through similar mechanisms. Do whatever you want, but for the love of Christ, don’t ask CC for ethical advice; you’ll never get any realistic answers.

my advice to every CCer: please dont make something up out of the blue-its gonna do you more harm than good

"I’ve attended one or two meetings of certain clubs, I’ll say I’m an avid member.

I crammed in all my community service hours my junior year, and I may spread them out to make it seem like I volunteered consistently throughout highshool.

There’s a job I wanted to have over the winter as a ski instructor, but they were all hired by the time I asked for an application. I’m going to do it next year, but I may say I did it this winter as well… What are they going to do, call the ski company?"

NONE of the things you plan on doing will make the difference between a waitlist / accept / reject. The only ECs that could possibly make a big difference in an application USUALLY can be easily looked up and it’d be VERY risky to lie about those types of ECs.

If I have a club that goes on competitions, and total, I spent about 10 days for competition, does that partially add up on the hours?
