could i put down a deposit on cornell and another school? if cornell found out would they rescind my admission?

yea actually people do this...i don't think that admission would be rescinded if one of them found out. HOWEVER, it is kinda mean because kids on the waitlist are waiting to get in and it depends greatly on how many people enroll (yield). i guess that you just haven't made your decision yet and want to keep options open? i guess that it's fine if you have to, but just think of those kids...

my advice would be to try to make your decision before the deadline

and choose Cornell obviously

ummm Cornell wouldn't have a way in finding this out. My question to you is why would you do that? It's a waste of money and if your mind isn't made up by May 1st, then whose to say that you'll make it up at all. I think that you should just tell yourself that you are making the decision ASAP and force yourself into doing it.

Good luck!

tell us more...maybe we can help you make a decision quicker and by the deadline.

what is the other school and WHYYYY would you not go to Cornell?? haha

the other school is umd college park. i got a great deal there, but i like cornell much better. it's a better fit for me. cornell gave me a crap financial aid package though. i appealed it, but the financial aid people basically told me im not getting any more money from them. i can't afford 200000 in loans. i am applying for scholarships, but i won't find out until after may 1. that's why i want to put down two deposits. financially it's actually cheaper to put down two deposits if i get the scholarships.

benandjerrys: I hear you about the financial aid at Cornell but 200,000 in loans? doesn't that mean you would be borrowing the total amount? What amounts can you and your parents contribute?

aight good reason...put down the two deposits.

BUT...do ANYTHING IN YOUR POWER to afford Cornell w/ or w/o the scholarships...obvs compared to maryland it would be a better experience.

i got a 3500 stafford loan thing. that's it. so it's basically all loans. my parents are in debt because my dad owns his own business. so they can pay a little, but it's too much even if they help me out. they would be taking about loans too. and my brother still needs to go to college and he won't even get merit aid like me. like i said, my family has tried to explain this to the financial aid people, but they said they still probably won't give me much more money.

hmmm...this is bad. i mean hopefully you can get some merit stuff...it would just be terrible to see you not go to ithaca because of this. i mean isn't some debt worth it? i know that it's a lot but would you guys be able to subsist? or is it just like they won't loan you the money.
