1) Does anyone know if it is looked down upon/ suggested that you write the person for the school you have just auditioned for a quick email saying thank you for your time, etc especially if it is your #1 school, or does that look needy?

2) The same type of question only regarding an extra recommendation letter, is that looked upon as needy if I have another recommendation letter I want to send to my #1 school, even if I have the required number in already?

I actually sent thank you notes to my auditions...I think there was a thread about a year ago about the same thing...I'll see if I can find/bump it.

These days email is ubiquitous... I would suggest writing a thank you note and mailing it. That is polite, not needy. It may or may not help your admissions, but it certainly cannot hurt.

As far as the recommendation letter goes, I personally feel that the letters are not particularly helpful... if the letters you have already subitted were sttong, I probably wouldn't worry about another one... although, again, I do not think it could hurt.

some of the schools i auditioned for even said not to send thankyou letters or emails. if you're on the waitlist then you could possibly send the extra recommendation.

The CCM audition tips actually said it would be nice to send a follow up thank you note after your audition to show your interest in their program. I also seem to recall that CCM said they would except one, and only one, teacher recommendation letter.

I asked specifically about extra rec letters at the UMich audition- and was told that one or two extra was OK but to stop at that- they said last year someone sent seven letters, and that was too much! My S sent in an extra letter immediately after the audition (directly to the School of Music, Theatre & Dance).
