Two Master's Degrees as a Future Educator

Hello all,

I am currently attending college to obtain a B.A in Early Childhood Education, and I am finishing up my degree requirements in the next year.

I am striving to specialize in racialized identity formation concerning marginal children and the shifting narratives regarding one’s material systemic consequences–primarily touching its relationship to learning one’s generational trauma and the notion within the culture of dissemblance in public education.

There is a social analysis graduate program I have been looking into that fulfills my post-graduate desires regarding educational employment. But, I would also like to obtain another master’s degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in social studies, too. Keep in mind; I will have to achieve this attending two different institutions at separate times (completing a degree after the other).

Although it sounds attainable, how does it weigh in with the ongoing competitive job market with educators and does it verbalize itself as pliable with my projected goals?

Any feedback will be valued.

Thanks.

With a BA was Early Childhood education, I don’t see any advantage in getting an Early Childhood Education MA after completing another MA in a different field. More advantage in starting your career.

In some states, a master’s degree (or equivalent) is valuable in getting tenure and/or a permanent teaching certificate… but you only need ONE.

What job do you want? Go for the master’s that gets you there.

Do you really need an MA to get certified in el ed with a social studies emphasis? Check your state requirements. This might just be a few classes to get the add on certificate.
