1.) How many people get into the Tisch Film major by submitting a short script rather than actual video? I've worked on films before but I haven't been the primary creative force behind them and they aren't short enough to submit. Scriptwriting is my main strength, on the other hand, but I'd like to know if they are more inclined to accept people who submit actual videos (if that's true, I can try to film one soon.)

2.) How hard is it to transfer from one Tisch major to another? For instance, if I applied to the Dramatic Writing major, could I transfer to the Film major at some point?

im not a current student/ staff member, but i went to the open house. apparently the main thing they are looking for in a portfolio is story telling ability so i think a script could work. unfortunately you cant “mix and match” so to speak, otherwise you could also supplement that with photos to demonstrate visual sensibility. i think its reasonable to say that the strongest portfolios are the video ones, the ones that demonstrate both excellent writing and visual acuity, but obviously if they let you do the script then someone out there has taken advantage of that option. i personally have never known someone to get in on solely a script, but do know a few who submitted pretty great short films.

that didnt really help. anyway, best of luck!

Thanks so much, van_sant! I may have to do a film then, but if there are any Tisch students or anyone else who has some insight on the question, please let me know! :)
