I signed up for an online class for summer b and I was wondering when would be the approximate time that I would get information from the class. I don't know when can I start the class and what site do I go to?

Do teachers give us a "supply list" in the syllabus on the first day? Or are we just expected to bring paper and pens for each class. The first day of class, are paper and pens the only things I need to show up with or is it implied to bring something else?

Yes… Does anyone know? Does UF use BlackBoard or something similar?

UF uses Sakai. To access it you goto ISIS and click the e-learning link in the left hand menu. Classes usually don’t show up til the day before or the first day of class.

Showing up with paper and something to write with is fine for the first day of class… maybe a calculator if it’s a math class. If you needed anything other than that they’d address it on the first day of class when they go over the syllabus.

You usually get information about online classes on the first day. UF does use Sakai as the previous poster wrote. Depending on the course, you’d either read lessons online or watch pre-recorded lectures. I’ve taken about 5 online courses during my first year; my recommendation is to pace yourself. It is REALLY easy to fall behind, I found myself watching 20 hours of lecture in one weekend- NOT FUN. Also, the online classes sometimes take a while to load under your name. They should be up after the second day or so, at the latest.

And you don’t ever get a supply list. Its what you choose to use. Some people have a binder with dividers, some have notebooks, others just use their laptop. It all depends on the professor’s laptop policy. I prefer to just come in with a notebook and pen. That’s all.
