Two questions re: applying for admission

I know SLU says that if you apply by means of the Common App, it will be given the same consideration as if you used the SLU form. I suspect this is pretty much true. But does anybody feel that the person who uses the SLU app has a leg up on displaying "interest" in the school (i.e., he/she took the time to prepare our unique application as opposed to just checking off a school on the Common App)? Does anybody believe you have a better chance at getting merit aid if you use the SLU app?

With the "rolling" admissions process, does one have a better chance at getting merit aid by applying earlier? For example, do you have a better chance at a scholarship if you apply in September instead of November?

Thanks.

Ds applied via common app, heard back in less than a month. Admitted with small scholarship.

I believe as long as you apply before the deadline for scholarship, you have the same chance for merit aid. my D sent her application just right before the deadline, she got a very generous scholarship from SLU. Merit aid is based on academic performance in high school and standard test score, so sending application on September or November does not make any difference.
