So two athletes at my school are applying SCEA to Yale and pretty much guaranteed their acceptance.

Since Yale only accepts 2 or 3 people from my school every year, there's no way the would take a 3rd SCEA'er right? Or does admissions for athletes go under a different quota, thus giving us "real" applicants a chance?

I believe “quotas” are determined by area, not by school. So it’s the same as if they are from any school in your area - detrimental, but doesn’t kill your chance as if they didn’t want a 3rd person from 1 school.

Yeah, I don’t think that they “track” the amount of candidates that are admitted from each school/region and choose the number of people whom they can admit accordingly. My notion of the system is that they simply review each applicant holistically and on its own; the application’s viewing may or may not be isolated from the viewing of applications coming from the same high school. Universities in general don’t care about quotas, but more about admitting the most diverse, intelligent, and talented group possible. The high schools from which they come is not necessarily a factor.

Stop thinking the “glass is half full” when you’ve got an amazing opportunity at hand.

Tell your buddies to write a letter to the coach(es) asking for the form where they can specify that you’ll be their roommate at Yale…because it’s very important to them for that to happen.

They don’t need to come right out and use the words “package deal” though that might work.

If one assumes that Yale has a quota system, then you assume that Yale feels beholden to “spread the wealth” to other high schools.

Not in the slightest.

Yale will work for its own benefit. If ten super qualified students came out of your class this year, ten people will get admits.

My area HS got four accepts two years ago – a statistically outlier if there ever was one. The four kids just happened to be outstanding in Yale’s eyes.

If you get rejected, it won’t be because of any suspected quota system. If you get accepted, then you’ll quickly forget about your fears at this moment. Good luck to you.
