Two suspicious packages detonate at Northeastern University

I just saw the breaking news.

ABC News reported a 45-year-old staff member sustained injuries to his hand, the Boston Police, bomb squad and FBI are investigating and “the scene is secure.”

Good grief… Not another Unabomber…

Just texted a close friend whose D is in grad school there. So scary.

It sounds less like a bomb, and more like a pressurized device. That’s very odd.

One package detonated, another was discovered and neutralized.

There was a rambling note enclosed denouncing virtual reality, Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg.

Obviously I don’t want this to happen anywhere, but I am wondering, why Northeastern? It’s not like it has a strong connection to Zuckerberg, Facebook, or virtual reality.

But given the note, places like Harvard, MIT, Stanford, UCB, and CMU should be on high alert.

@hebegebe I agree, this feels more local than a Unibomber sort of act. Either a beef with individual people, the school, or something more random, but I’ve never associated Northeastern with much of anything worthy of terrorism.

Really strange.

It is an urban campus, so lots of through traffic… maybe picked an easy target?
