I am an undergraduate student from an out-of-state 4-year public university who wants to transfer into a UC. However, UCs require that I take two English composition courses. I have the AP credit for AP Lang/Lit, but that only counts for one course. I am currently taking an oral communications course this semester – would this count as an English composition course? If not, what can I do to ensure that an English course that I register for at this university equates to a required English Composition course?
No, oral communication will not count.
Would a class in technical writing/advanced composition count?
Probably not.
what about a class about literature and its uses? or a class that fulfilled a writing requirement at another UC?
Try to find your school here. You need a course that matches English R1B. No other.

if it shows WRIT ## AAZZ as a course, but there is no course because it’s only usually two letter, does that mean all the WRIT ## courses are considered a match? Also, after that ‘course’, it lists the WRIT ## courses, so does it mean that not all the WRIT ## AAZZ courses count? Ex) 1. WRIT 100 AAZZ, 2. WRIT 100 ED, 3. WRIT 100 SS, ect.
Unless you name your current college, no one else here can help you estimate whether particular courses there could be counted as English composition courses.
Regarding AP credit, each campus and each division at the campus may have different valuations of AP scores, so you need to check what each campus may give you in terms of subject credit for whatever AP scores you have.
Can you contact the registrar at the UC you want to transfer to.
