Two weeks in

D was hoping for today . . .

We could start a pool. I'll say next Wednesday, 10/3.

I go for Tuesday 10/2

When will the leaves change? My DD will be there Oct 26th and she's never seen that.

The leaves have already started to change - I can see some orange from my window. This is funny because it's still so warm out!

(I don't really care about when Mountain Day happens - I just want it to cool off a little so that I can wear my long-sleeve shirts!)

Leaves are changing and dropping especially early this year because of the drought. The weather report for Monday and Tuesday of next week looks pretty nice -- much better than the summer temps and dewpoints we've had this week.

So will it be over by October 26th??? Aw, man.

SR, I doubt it will be over, it just won't be "peak." I love it when there's a mixture of red & gold & green & brown...I was just showing some photos on my computer this morning.

Apparently ( I just heard), Smith was up for accreditation this past week so they needed to have students on campus looking studious. Hence no Mountain Day. Yet.

Peak foliage in Massachusetts is usually around Columbus Day (the original Columbus Day -- on October 12), but each species of tree has its own turning point, so there will be a succession of different patterns through the end of October. The sugar maples will be brilliant orange and scarlet during the first half of October. The auburn/mahogany of the oaks will predominate towards November (along with the yellows of.other maples and birch).

You heard right, Pesto. It wouldn't have looked too good on our part if they were here to see if we're still a legitimate school and no one was in class. ;) They left yesterday, though, so we shall see.

Hey, that's how we got public education. Horace Mann went to Prussia in 1843 for three weeks to see the schools - they were CLOSED the entire time he was there. Then he returned to Massachusetts and spent much of the rest of his life campaigning for a system of education he'd never even seen.

And we've all paid the consequences. ;)

Today's Mountain Day. :) I have three classes today, so I don't mind.

Happy Mountain Day! Hope the weather is great, and make the most of it!

Thanks for the heads up. I e-mailed D, saying "have fun," who snarked back, "One two-hour review session already, with another later. LOTS of fun." I gather there is some flu-like thing going around and that it's already punched her number and that sleep is being prized as a result.

Some classes have mid-terms this week.

today's weather was not mountain day weather, unfortunately, and more like stay-in-bed-with-the-shades-drawn-regardless-of-whether-or-not-class-is-canceled-or-not weather. Oh well, there's always next year.

And there were quite a few review sessions going on today, seeing as it's the week before fall break.

Yes, often I find the last minute mountain day is an ill timed mountain day. The earlier the better.
