I was wondering if anyone has information on the Tyng Scholarship that Williams offers?

I think that pays for all 4 years undergrad and then research/graduate school.

Summer research that is, and then three years of grad school.

I just was offered one, were you also? Either way, we called the school for a bit more clarification, and this is what I've gathered.

3 summers of paid research of what one would be expected to make doing a summer job (estimated: $1,950) and one year with an additional $3,200 stipend.

All work study is converted into grants, but otherwise your financial aid is still based on need. They do NOT pay full tuition, and it is subject to fluctuation do to changes in financial situation each year. (Note: I got significantly more than the online calculator and other schools offered me though, even with work-study factored in)

3 years of grad school aid, where your parents' income does NOT factor into determined need (this year they are giving a student $50,000).

They let you borrow some books to save costs of textbooks.

The award is only given to 7-8 kids each year according to the site, and can only be received if you are eligible for need-based aid.

congrats sounds like a good deal :)

congratulations if you've earned a tyng scholarship. One other benefit: the school pays you to come here, something like $2,000 per year for expenses, but you can't have a campus job. In fact, you can't be employed at all. Tyng scholars tend to have abnormal williams GPAs, something in the range of 3.8...
